Nokia’s first smartphone since its comeback to the mobile devices market, the Nokia 6, is now available for purchase on Lazada Philippines.

It has a price tag of ₱18,590 and comes in a single color option – black (it previously says white). Both cash on delivery and free shipping are applicable for the product.

The Nokia 6 features a 5.5 inch full HD display, Android 7.0 Nougat operating system, Snapdragon 430 chipset, 4GB of RAM, 16MP camera, 4G connectivity and a 3000mAh battery. It’s housed in an aluminum unibody case with Dolby Atmos improving its audio quality.

It also has a fingerprint sensor, laser autofocus, Gorilla Glass 3 front panel, USB OTG and a gyroscope for augmented reality apps.

This price is a little too much though since the phone’s price in China converts to merely around ₱12,000. However, demand for it has skyrocketed with millions of orders and depleted stocks.

MyPhone partnered-up with Chinese brand SuperD in bringing this smartphone here in the country. The Filipino ‘multimedia’ company is simply distributing the phone but not re-branding it.

Infinix Mobile’s eagerly awaited beast of a smartphone is finally available here in the Philippines – the Infinix Zero 4 Plus!

It features a huge 5.98 inch full HD display, powerful deca core MediaTek Helio X20 processor, 4GB of RAM and a 20.7 Megapixel rear camera that has optical image stabilization for blur-free pictures. There’s also Gorilla Glass 3 for scratch protection, Marshmallow-based XOS Chameleon as the operating system, 4G LTE connectivity and a fingerprint sensor.

Aside from having OIS, the Infinix Zero 4 Plus also has laser autofocus and a dual-tone LED flash. The front camera has an 8 Megapixel wide-angle lens with its own LED flash.

It’s is housed in an aluminum unibody case in two color options – silver and gold. A 4000mAh powers the device and supports fast charging.

The price is ₱15,990.00 and availability starts on January 26, 2017 at 12 noon on Lazada Philippines.

We were pretty hyped when Lazada Philippines announced the availability of the Nokia 6 here in the country on January 26, 2017. However, Flann Gao of HMD Global reached out to us via our official Facebook page and claimed that the units being sold by the online shopping website are not legit.

“The Nokia 6 is only launched in China and is only in black via our exclusive partner JD.com. That Lazada posting is not legit,” he said.

He said this because the Nokia 6 product page on Lazada displayed a white color variant of the device despite the fact that only the black variant has been launched. HMD Global currently owns the rights to use the Nokia brand for mobile phones and tablets. The company launched the Android-powered Nokia 6 smartphone exclusively in China on January 8, 2017.

Meanwhile, Lazada ensures that the Nokia 6 being sold on their online shopping website is 100% legit and has passed a proper screening process. The company is also backed by Chinese online shopping giant Alibaba.

Curiously, the Nokia 6 product page now shows that the device comes in black, not white. It’s being sold by a trusted seller named Hellotronics.

Mr. Gao further warned that these units have software which is fine-tuned for Chinese users and the warranty is only valid within China.

Lazada Philippines does have 7 days replacement warranty and 14 days repair warranty for the Nokia 6. The third party merchant also has one year of warranty and a dedicated customer service hotline.

I explained the situation to Mr. Gao and he was receptive. His main concern is the welfare of the customers. He concluded that “someone must bought those from JD.com and shipped them to Phillippines”.

He then promised that HMD Global is working very hard to officially bring Nokia smartphones to more markets including the Philippines. They are also humbled by the hot reception they got from China and around the world on their first android product.

I’ve tried contacting Hellotronics but as of the time of posting, I haven’t heard from them. Update will be posted once they respond.

Looking for a good smartphone for taking selfies but the Oppo F1s is too expensive? The company offers an alternative – the Oppo A39.

It has a 5 Megapixel front camera with 1.4μm pixels in a 1/4 inch image sensor. This means it has a ‘high light sensitivity and frame rate’ which, together with software enhancements through Beautify 4.0, results in great selfies.

The Oppo A39 also has a 13 Megapixel camera at the back, Gorilla Glass 4 protected 5.2-inch HD display, octa core processor and 3GB of RAM. It also has a 2900mAh battery, 4G LTE connectivity and support for dual band Wi-Fi networks.

However, its operating system is still Android 5.1 Lollipop instead of the newer Marshmallow and Nougat. This might not matter that much though since Oppo smartphones come with a customized user interface similar to iOS called Color OS.

The Oppo A39 has an official price of ₱10,990.00 and can be purchased at Oppo stores nationwide as well as online on Lazada. Each purchase includes a FREE clear case.

The water and dust resistant Samsung Galaxy A7 (2017) is now officially available for purchase in the Philippines on Lazada and Abenson’s online store.

Both stores give a free Level U Pro wireless headset and flip cover for every purchase of the handset. Black and gold are available on Lazada while Abenson offers an additional blue color option. They have the same pricing though – ₱23,990.00.

The Samsung Galaxy A7 (2017) features a 5.7-inch full HD Super AMOLED display, octa core processor with 3GB of RAM, two 16 Megapixel cameras (one on the front and one at the back), 4G LTE connectivity, a fingerprint sensor, USB Type-C port and a 3600mAh battery.

Just like its big brother, the Samsung Galaxy A5 (2017) can now be officially purchase in the Philippines through online shops Lazada and Abenson.

It has a more affordable price of ₱19,990 compared to the Samsung Galaxy A7 (2017) but has the same freebies – a Level U Pro wireless headset and flip wallet cover. However, you’ll have to be contented with a smaller 5.2-inch display.

Aside from the screen size and battery capacity, the two phones share the same set of specs such as an octa core processor, 3GB of RAM, 16 Megapixel front and rear cameras, 4G LTE connectivity, a water and dust resistant design and a fingerprint sensor. It’s powered by a 3000mAh battery.

Globe’s GoSURF50 promo now comes with 1GB of mobile data, an additional 300MB of data for a chosen app and unlimited texts to all networks.

The promo previously offered 1GB of data but with 300MB of that restricted to Spotify. This time, the whole gigabyte is open to all websites and apps while the additional 300MB can be applied to Facebook, YouTube, Spotify or Pokemon Go among others.

Validity of the promo is still 3 days or until the said amounts of data have been used up.

Starmobile’s parent company announced a new product called the Starcube Digital TV Box to compete with ABS-CBN’s TV Plus.

It promises clearer video quality of TV shows compared to traditional analog televisions using an antenna. Of course, this depends on the digital TV signal coverage in the area. Big cities usually already have coverage of major channels.

The Starcube Digital TV Box supports playing movies and music saved on a USB flash drive including MKV files. Its Time Shift feature also allows recording TV shows for watching at a later time.

Connection options include HDMI for newer televisions with full HD capability as well as the more familiar red, yellow and white RCA for older TVs. A small active antenna is also included for better reception.

Availability of the Starcube Digital TV Box starts on the second week of February 2017. It has an official price of ₱1,490.00 but early buyers can enjoy a lower introductory price of ₱1,290.00 only.

A new variant of the Zenfone Go is now available in the country – the ASUS Zenfone Go 5 Lite with model number ZB500KG.

It offers a 5 inch display, quad core processor, 8 Megapixel camera, 8GB of built-in storage, 3G connectivity and a 2600mAh battery. It also follows the design language of other ASUS smartphones such as the rear control buttons and concentric pattern in its chin.

The official price of the ASUS Zenfone Go 5 Lite is ₱3,995.00. It comes in either soft eggshell or metallic finish as well as in several color options including black, gold, blue & white.

Firefly Mobile introduces a new member of its Intense smartphone series – the Firefly Mobile Intense 5.

As the name suggests, it has a 5-inch display although with merely a qHD resolution. It also has a quad core processor, 1GB of RAM, an 8 Megapixel camera, Android 6.0 Marshmallow operating system and 3G conectivity.

It’s powered by a 2100mAh battery and comes with 8GB of built-in storage plus a microSD card slot for expansion.

The Firefly Mobile Intense 5 has an official price of ₱2,999.00. Buyers will also get freebies including a tempered glass screen protector and a silicone case.
