Aside from
Android 5.0 Lollipop,
Nexus 6 smartphone and Nexus 9 tablet, Google also announced today the
Nexus Player made by Asus.
The Nexus Player is the first set-top-box to run on
Android TV– an optimized version of Android for TV. When it is connected to your TV via
HDMI and internet via Wi-Fi, you can watch movies, play games and enjoy other apps.
Here’s the Asus Nexus Player:
The Nexus Player runs on a
1.8GHz quad core Intel Atom processor, PowerVR Series 6 GPU, 1GB of RAM and MIMO Wi-Fi support. It also has 8GB of onboard storage and a microUSB 2.0 port.
It comes with a
voice activated remote so you don’t have to type on your TV, use tiny remote keyboard or find an external keyboard just to find your favorite shows. Android TV also shows a personalized list of recommended shows and apps.
You can also cast your entertainment apps from your Android smartphone or tablet, Windows or Mac laptop or Chromebook.
There’s also a gamepad for the Nexus Player which is sold separately. You can use it to play games with precise controls and higher chances of defeating the enemies.
Of course, the Nexus Player will be connected to Google Play where you can pick your favorite apps or movies.
Hopefully, Asus brings the Nexus Player here in the Philippines and retain its
$99 price.
